The Collaborative Power of a Research Data Commons: LDaCA case studies

27 August 2026

The session explored how researchers could accelerate their research and build new collaborative networks by tapping into a Research Data Commons. It demystified the research data commons model by demonstrating its benefits, including easier access to data, powerful new tools, faster results and collaborative research communities.

Through four practical case studies from the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA), the session demonstrated how shared infrastructure could help overcome complex data challenges.

Examples included:

  • the Nyingarn workspace for Indigenous language materials
  • advanced text analysis tools
  • Indigenous GLAM metadata enrichment
  • sourcing data for gesture research.

The session explored the virtuous circle of shared data, demonstrating how working with others within an infrastructure ecosystem could expand collaborative networks and create new opportunities for future research.
